Coach Wise fell in love with basketball in 1993. A young baseball fan and player up until that point, it was while watching Michael Jordan and Charles Berkeley dual it out in the ’93 NBA Finals that Wise realized he had found his new passion. “The Basketball court is, and has always been, a place of refuge, retreat and revival for me. I would go to the court upset about something and by the time I had finished playing, I would have totally forgotten what I was upset about in the first place.” After playing three sports in High School, Coach Wise was blessed to earn a scholarship to play football in college. After graduating College, Wise begin a career working with At-Risk youth in the St. Louis metropolitan area. He would operate After School Programs across the city and county and even start his own Summer Camp for youth. It was while working in this field that Wise began coaching. “I was noticing that the youth looked up to me not because of my position or title, but because of my story. They were interested in my journey, and they loved sports, but they were angry. So I would use sports for them, as I used it for me, as a place of therapy and release. When it started working, I knew then what God wanted me to do for the rest of my life.” Coach Wise is a man of Faith. He credits his parents for introducing him to Jesus, and loves to worship him in spirit and in truth. Coach Wise’s coaching philosophy is to empower every young person he works with through fundamental basketball knowledge, while sharing and representing the love of God. “I would be nothing without God, therefore he is my everything.”
